Ballams was established over 50 years ago and is still an independent practice today. We continue to build on our enviable reputation for providing excellent advice and first class service to our business and personal clients alike. We have many clients in the local community and service businesses, small and large, across many sectors including:
- the professions;
- the service sector;
- the construction industry;
- agriculture;
- manufacturers; and
- retailers.
As well as general accountancy, audit and tax skills, our four partners also have individual specialist skills which enables us to provide clients with a first class service as and when required. With our wealth of experience we pride ourselves on delivering an unparalleled service to all clients, what ever their size or sector.

Partners
Simon Marriage BSC Econ ACA
Senior partner with overall responsibility for strategy at Ballams, Simon has been a qualified Chartered Accountant since 1981.
He joined the firm in 1973 and has had responsibility for a broad spectrum of clients throughout that period.
Simon was educated at Ipswich School, before moving on to Cardiff University to continue his studies.
Today he lives in Ipswich, has three step-children and is a non-executive director of a number of local companies.
Susan Fayers FCA
Focusing on tax and professional partnerships within her role at Ballams, Susan qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1984.
She came to the firm in 1986 and was made partner in January 1991.
Originally educated at Stowmarket High School, she now lives at Tostock, near Bury St Edmunds, with her husband and two children.
Michael Mortimer FCCA
Michael is Ballams Audit Partner and Practice Assurance Partner.
Educated in Bury St Edmunds at the King Edward VI School, he has over 25 years of accountancy experience and qualified as a Certified Accountant in 1989.
He has been a member of the Ballams team since 1992, and as a partner since 1999.
Married, with two sons, Michael is a keen football fan and enjoys DIY and gardening in his spare time.

Marc Howes FCCA
Having joined the firm as a trainee in 1993, Marc qualified as a certified accountant in 1999 and became a partner in 2005.
As well as managing a number of client accounts, his direct responsibilities at Ballams include overseeing IT systems.
He was educated locally, at St. Josephs College in Ipswich, and continues to live in the town today with his wife and two young children.
Marc is a keen swimmer, a season-ticket holder at Ipswich Town Football Club and a trustee for a number of local charities.
